ARTISTIC STATEMENT

This solo, created in 2005, emerged from a subtle yet radical exploration of the skin as the source of movement, the interface between the body and the world, and the protective shell that connects us to others. In this piece, I address a question that recurs throughout my choreographic work: the invention of an architecture for the body. Drawing on in-depth research into somatic states, the body itself becomes both the architect and the architecture of the stage space.
The framework created for this piece allows me to study the body from its very foundations: by inverting the points of support and the dynamics of movement horizontally, I compose bodily states where gravity and suspension continually intersect. The dialogue between sensory narration and the “horizontal medium” of space constitutes the source of this solo’s choreography.
Reenacting and reactivating this stage framework today involves retracing the narrative thread of sensations within a different perceptual and temporal context. This reinterpretation could be likened to a rewriting, thereby opening up new interpretive perspectives.
